What is Diabetes?
Diabetes is a disease or a condition that occurs when your blood sugar or blood glucose, is too high. Blood glucose is the main source of energy for a body and comes from the food that a person eats. Insulin, a peptide hormone produced by beta cells of the pancreas, that helps glucose from the food then get into the body cells to be used for energy. Sometimes the body doesn’t make enough or any insulin which is required in the body. Glucose then stays in the blood and doesn’t reach the cells.
When the blood glucose level increases in the body it may cause health problems. Although diabetes has no cure, a person can take steps to manage diabetes and stay healthy.
